Our Purpose

The primary objective of the Lone Star Runners Club (LSRC) is to promote the health and wellness of our community through the sport of running. LSRC organizes and supports running events to include all levels of runners from beginners to competitive runners.

The LSRC website includes a list of upcoming local races, race results, LSRC events and meetings, group runs, race timing fee information, and resources for race directors including checklists for organizing races and registration forms.

LSRC members receive entry fee discounts on all LSRC-sponsored races.

Message from the President

Welcome to the Lone Star Runners Club!
This new website is dedicated to our members and our volunteers. The reason LSRC has existed for over 40 years is because of our dedicated volunteers and our Board officers. We rely on volunteers to make every event a success and to fill positions on our Leadership Team (LSRC Board). So why the focus on volunteering? For me the story begins when I was a kid. My father was an exceptional athlete. He played basketball for OSU and selected as all state first team. He excelled in the high jump for the track team. He played for the baseball team his senior year and then played in the minors. From there he went on to coach for ten years and then as a principal for 17 years. But, the more impressive thing to me was that he was our Kids Inc. coach for many years in football, basketball, softball and baseball. During those years of coaching he instilled in us winning and sportsmanship. If we didn’t place first every season we almost always were voted as the best sportsmanship team. What I learned from those years was to volunteer your time in the sports you participate in. I started running 12 years ago and joined LSRC shortly after. I have volunteered in almost a hundred races. We are blessed as runners because we participate in a sport in which we get to experience nature while having a great competitive experience in organized races. Running is a gift to you, volunteering is a gift from you. Many people have the ability to organize a racing event. However, volunteers are the key to a successful race. I believe that when it comes to volunteering we are all equally priceless. “God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.” Romans 12:6. In one of our previous newsletters I wrote, “When it comes to sports one thing that always holds true is what I phrase as Talent is Temporary.” Your training, dedication and hard work leads you to become the best you can be. You may be or have been the fastest runner in a race or in your age group and for that you should feel proud. But, with age or injury the results of that athletic ability and talent will fade. Talent is temporary but giving back will last a lifetime and beyond through those you’ve helped. I invite every LSRC member and those who are interested in joining LSRC to volunteer. No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of anyone else.

To our members I say, “Thank You for being a part of our team!” We are here to help you stay connected, motivated and supported. When we get together to race or just for a run I want to encourage you and I want to be encouraged by you. For those of you that are new to running you have probably already started to realize that running can bring remarkable changes to your body, your metabolism, your heart, and your spirits. If you are not a member I encourage you to join our club, run in our races, run in our group runs, volunteer at our events and get to know your fellow runners. That fellowship with runners will make it one of the best decisions you’ve ever made as I assure you that you’ll make some lifelong friends. We run to do our best and if that means winning races that’s great, if that means getting to run with friends that’s awesome!
